1-1
Welcome to my New Media New Forms class blog!
My name is Eva and I am a masters student in Art Education at Columbia Teachers College. I grew up in Westport, Massachusetts and I moved to New York in 2009 to attend Parsons the New School for Design. I graduated in 2013 with a BFA in Integrated Design and a BA in Environmental Studies. I focused in printmaking, fiber arts, and food systems.
I have some limited experience with technology and am excited to learn more.
Growing up I played some video and computer games, but was never particularly computer literate. The workings of a computer were presented to me as "magic" by my parents (my father would say abracadabra when the computer turned on) and that was how I saw technology for a long time; mysterious, temperamental, and magical.
I took an AutoCAD class and was introduced to the Adobe Creative Suite in high school. However, I was not engaged with internet culture until I went to college. I remember my senior year of high school I was sitting in the school library with my friends and they suggested I check something out on youtube. I had never been on the site before even though it had been out for a few years at that point. I typed "utube" into the address bar and was endlessly teased.
I took multiple Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign courses at Parsons. I have experience using the laser cutter and limited experience using Adobe Premiere to edit video and sound. I have some experience using ArcGIS and Google Earth to create maps and explore census data.
I use technology in some aspects of my practice, however I mainly work with traditional materials. I often use the laser cutter to etch into canvas. I also use Photoshop and Illustrator to create educational materials for Freshkills Park and Fort Tryon Park.
