For our Impact 25 Project, Alycia and I wanted to start a conversation about Censorship and Art. We created a survey asking for people’s thoughts on 7 historical and contemporary works of art that have been censored at one point or another. The works have either been censored for their content or because of the actions of the artist that created them. The survey also had the context for why each work was censored and an image of the work. We tried to provide a variety of reasons for why the work would have been censored over a range of time periods.

The majority of people said that the works should not be censored, but their comments really showed how conflicted some people were on the issue. The results were incredibly interesting. I was honestly expecting a
We decided to represent the information in a book. We put the censored images in gold museum frames as if they were hanging in a public space. We then brought everyone’s comments into speech bubbles surrounding the images to bring the (one-sided) dialogs that resulted from the survey together to simulate a conversation.
We then created an appendix with the text from each question and graphs with the results.
